On the classification of the eclipsing system V548 Cygni a sd-d candidate

  • 1. Osservatorio Astronomico, Rome (Italy)

Description

Using Wilson-Devinney approach, a new solution of Ertan's (1981) photoelectric observations of V548 Cygni, an eclipsing binary suspected to be a sd-d candidate is obtained, this solution gives a secondary component in contact with its lobe; the computation of the absolute elements, based on the photometric mass ratio and on the spectroscopically determined mass function f(m)=0.0544 M sub(sun), gives a configuration typical of mass exchanging Algols. The usefulness of Roche-model-based methods for such doubtful systems is emphasized. (author)
