Recent advances in the low valent approach to f-element organometallic chemistry

Description

The low valent organometallic chemistry of the lanthanide elements has been investigated by cocondensing lanthanide metal vapor with neutral unsaturated hydrocarbons at -1960C. Preparative-scale reactions of this type provide a variety of new classes of organolanthanide complexes as well as insight into the lanthanide metal unsaturated hydrocarbon interaction. The utility of this low valent approach in preparing divalent and trivalent organolanthanide hydrides and soluble divalent organosamarium complexes is also discussed
