Aerosol removing device

Description

When steams incorporating radioactive solid particles released from a reactor pressure vessel are jetted from a nozzle into pool water, air bubbles having a diameter corresponding to the nozzle diameter and flow rate are formed. The particles in the air bubbles move to a gas/liquid intersurface and transfer into water while undergoing the effects of gravity, inertia, and diffusion in the course in which the air bubbles rise in water. In this case, the air bubbles jetted out from the nozzle are caused to pass through a metal mesh under vibrations in order to increase the amount of particles transferred. Then, the air bubbles are broken into small bubbles, so that the required distance moving to the gas/liquid intersurface to transfer into water is shortened. With such procedures, the amount of particles transferring to water can be increased than bubbles in an ordinary state. Particles passing through water are accelerated by passing through a nozzle having a restricted top end to increase inertia and are collided against metal surface to be captured. Since radioactive solid particles can thus be captured and removed, the device can be simplified. (T.M.)
