Analysis of materials density by Compton scattering

  • 1. Universidade Federal, Rio de Janeiro, RJ (Brazil). Coordenacao dos Programas de Pos-graduacao de Engenharia

Description

This work presents a systems to obtain the density of materials using Compton scattering techniques. The mathematical model used led us to obtain the attenuation coefficient as a function of the scattering energy at 90 degrees without rotating the object or using sources with two different energies. The system was set up using two 50.4 mm x 50.4 mm (NaI(TI)) detectors, a Iridium 192 source and it was calibrated by using samples with density varying from 0,78 to 2,7 g/cm sup(3). (author)
