Linearity and resolution of photodiodes

  • 1. Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, CA

Description

A NaI crystal of hexagonal cross section was equipped at one end with a photomultiplier and with four photodiodes. A comparison was made between the response of a photomultiplier (PM) and a photodiode (PD) on an event-to-event basis when exposed to varying amounts of light triggered by cosmic rays in the NaI. The NaI was then exposed to positrons of 10 and 20 GeV, and again, the pulseheight response of the PM and PD are compared. Application of bismuth germanate crystals instead of NaI is then discussed
