This publication first recalls the purpose of the NEC-2 European directive, its context, and the associated obligations it specifies for member States. Then, it proposes a situational overview of the directive implementation by evoking the implementation report, and by discussion the implementation situation in 2020 in terms of possibility of reaching reduction objectives in 2020, of analysis of submitted national air pollution control programmes (NAPCPs), of analysis of impacts of projected emission reductions, and of other aspects of implementation. The next part addresses the situation in France: status of the transposition, and to which extent objectives will be reached regarding the different considered atmospheric pollutants (SO₂, NO_x, non-methane organic volatile compounds, NH₃, and PM2.5 particulate matters).
