Elaboration of finely divided powders of pure zirconia from a crystallized zirconium acetate

  • 1. Lyon-1 Univ., 69 - Villeurbanne (France)

Description

This paper deals with the preparation of a crystallized zirconium acetate, the formula of which is: 2Zr0(CH3C00)2, CH3C00H, 2H20. The last step of the pyrolysis of this salt, at 8000C in air, is a submicronic powder of very pure monoclinic zirconia. Its formation is preceded by the apparition of amorphous zirconia, then by the crystallization of metastable tetragonal zirconia. The stabilization of this phase, up to 6500C, is connected with the presence of residual carbon preventing the growth of crystallites. 19 refs
