Comparison of measured and calculated reaction rates from D2O-moderated 252Cf neutrons

  • 1. Arkansas Univ., Fayetteville (USA)

Description

Activation detectors and an N.B.S. fission chamber have been used to measure reaction rates at several distances between 25 cm and 150 cm from the D2O-moderated 252Cf source at the University of Arkansas. The reactions measured were 197Au(n,γ), 115In(n,n'), 32S(n,p), 58Ni(n,p), 235U(n,f) and 237Np(n,f). Corrections for room-scatter, for air-scattering and for non-1/r2 effects near the source were applied to obtain the expected free-field reaction rates. Cross-sections from the ENDF/B V file and the D2O-moderated source spectrum from the Monte Carlo calculation of H. Ing and W. G. Cross were used to calculate reaction rates which are compared with the measured results. (Auth.)
