Preparation and characterization of nanocrystalline nickel powders by the γ-radiation method
- 1. University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, AH (China)
Description
Nanocrystalline powders of nickel have been prepared by gamma irradiation of an alkaline solution of Ni2+ ions complexed by the NH3 ligand. The nickel particles produced were stable when exposed to air. Details of the method are given. X-ray powder diffraction showed that the product consisted of very small particles of average size 8 nm. Transmission electron microscopy confirmed the size, giving a range of 6 to 12 nm and showed the particles to be quasi-spherical crystallites. From these experiments the optimum conditions for producing nanocrystalline nickel powders has been established. (3 figures, 8 references). (UK)
