Clinical survey of lung cancer, 2
Description
Bronchial artery infusion of anti-cancer drugs (B.A.I.) with concurrent low-dose radiotherapy (LdRT) was performed in 21 patients with primary lung cancer. Within 3 hours after 2 Gy X-ray irradiation of the lesion with a 6 MeV Lineac, anti-cancer drugs were infused into the bronchial artery. The effect was evaluated by changes of 2-dimensional tumor shadow measured on chest X-ray films taken before and two weeks after B.A.I.+LdRT. A regression of more than 20% in tumor size was seen in 66.7% of the 21 patients. The effect was more favorable in large or small carcinoma groups than in epidermoid carcinoma or adenocarcinoma. Details of this study suggested that the effect of this therapy corresponded with the grade of vascularity of the tumor. Serious side effects were not observed. (author)
