Phase equilibria in the erbium--boron system and lattice parameters of the rare earth hexaborides
Description
A detailed investigation of the erbium-boron phase diagram including vaporization behavior, melting behavior and melting points, lattice parameters, and compositions is presented. The qualitative vaporization study showed that ErB4 is the only congruently vaporizing compound in the erbium-boron system. All samples richer in boron than ErB4 preferentially lose boron by vaporization with a vapor composition in the range ErB66-B. Samples richer in erbium than ErB4 lose erbium preferentially, and the vapor is essentially pure erbium
