Chiral symmetry breaking and the interaction of π mesons with very light nuclei at low energies
Description
The nucleon sigma term in the absence of free parameters is calculated assuming SU(3) x SU(3) symmetry breaking by the Hamiltonian which transforms as the (3, 3()+(3(, 3) representation. The sum rules relating the physical amplitudes to the amplitudes for soft pions are used to estimate the pion-nucleon sigma term from the data on π-meson scattering on nuclei with A< or =4
