Reclaiming, remediating and disposing of oilfield wastes in Alberta : proceedings of an Insight Conference

Description

The eleven presentations at this conference explored existing regulations in Alberta relating to oilfield waste disposal and land reclamation of polluted sites. In Alberta, regulatory powers in energy and environmental affairs are exercised by the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) and Alberta Environmental Protection (AEP). Technical and legal aspects of regulations applicable to oilfield waste, including oil and gas, oil sands, and oilfield waste management facility operations, toxicity assessment of drilling additives, dewatering systems, wellsite abandonment and reclamation, disposal of drilling fluids, thermal soil remediation, and cost considerations in remediation and disposal are examined. Legislation, defining the respective jurisdictions over waste disposal of the EUB and AEP are also reviewed to provide the appropriate legislative background to regulatory activities. refs., tabs,. figs
