Production of pernitrite ions under pulse radiolysis of KNO3

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Organicheskoj Khimii

Description

The process of intramolecular reconstruction of nitrate ion following pulsed irradiation of crystalline KNO3 with accelerated electrons (250 keV, pulse dUration 10 nc, pulse dose rate 8x1011 Gy/s) and with X-rays (dose rate 1.92 Gy/s), is studied. From an analysis of the dependence of the ONO2- concentration in KNO3 on an absorbed dose (0-1.6x105 Gy) for irradiation of a pure and prevously photolized sample, the mechanism of ONO2- production and further transformation is suggested. Production of ONO2- ions is shown to be sensitive to variations in ionizing radiation dose rates. The initial radiation-chemical yield of ONO2- ions was measured to be approximately 1 per 100 eV
