Validation of the WIMS 69 group data library using a series of experiments with low enriched fuel moderated by water containing soluble neutron poison

  • 1. British Nuclear Fuels plc, Risley (United Kingdom)

Description

The BNFL-Hanford series of critical experiments have been re-examined using 1986 WIMS data with either MONK5W or MONK6B being used as the solution code. The nuclear data was pre-processed through NOVICE. For comparison, the cases were also run using MONK6B with its point nuclear data. The 1986 data performed well when used with either MONK5W or MONK6B, and showed no apparent bias in its prediction of k-effective. This serves to provide valuable validation evidence, therefore, for the use of these data/code combinations in the assessments of the THORP Dissolver. (Author)
