Safety analysis of INPP

Description

Preparation of safety analysis report (SAR) for INPP is presented. According to the Grant Agreement signed between European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Government of Lithuania safety analysis of Ignalina NPP has to be performed according to western methodologies. The bank financed this project and work was performed by two separate experts groups consisting from specialists from Western countries as well from Russian RBMK reactors design institute NIKIET and Lithuanian specialists. One group prepared SAR, another made review of the SAR. To coordinate this process Ignalina Safety Panel (ISP) was established by the Bank. The main conclusion of the safety analysis was that there are no reasons for immediate shutdown of INPP due to low safety level, but a number of urgent measures should be taken to improve some systems and made additional analysis and prove safety of some systems
