Natural radioactivity of drinking water on the southern and middle parts of Syria

Description

Water samples from 48 sites, covering the major drinking water sources in the southern and middle parts of Syria were collected twice and analyzed for 222 Rn, 226 Ra, 210 Po and total uranium. Also all samples were analyzed for major cations and anions, physical properties and Hardness. The results obtained were generally low and comparable with those found for other countries. The highest values were found in regions around the phosphate mines in the middle par of Syria with 113 Kb.m-3 for 222 Rn, 350 Bq.m-3 for 226 Ra, 8 Bq.m-3 for 210 Po and 350 Bq.m-3 for total uranium.
