Radioiodine 131I therapy in the patients with thyroid cancer

The therapeutic value of 131I therapy of thyroid cancer with metastases was evaluated in the last 20 years. 36 patients was treated with 131I, and 18 patients had papillary and 16 patients had follicular carcinoma. 17 patients had pulmonary metastasis, and 13 patients had bone metastasis. A therapeutic dose of 131I was 3.7 GBq. The overall survival was 88% at 5 years and 65% at 10 years. Patients with pulmonary metastasis had a better prognosis than those with bone metastasis. Patients with 131I accumulation had better prognoses. (author)
