Charge fluctuation model of lattice vibrations

  • 1. Oak Ridge National Lab., Tenn. (USA)

Description

A new phenomenological model is proposed for the lattice dynamics of transition metals. It is based on the microscopic model of Sinha and Harmon (Phys.Rev.Lett.;35:1515(1975)) and includes the effect of charge fluctuations coupled to atomic motions. The model has been found to reproduce very accurately the phonon dispersion curves for Nb with short-range charge fluctuations and interatomic interactions. (author)
