Factors influencing the partitioning of tritium as OBT in spinach plant

Description
Soil-to-plant transfer factors are commonly used to estimate the transfer of radionuclides in the food chain. However, the large range of reported transfer factors depicts that the concentration of radionuclide in the soil is not merely the only factor influencing its uptake by the plant. In order to quantify these variability, controlled pot experiments were carried out under simulated environment at KAPS, India to generate values for different parameters like RH, CRs, Rp and Cam affecting the transfer of tritium to leafy vegetables (Spinach). The experimentally derived values were correlated with the organically bound 3H in the plant. It was found that Cam has significant correlation to the formation of organically bound 3H followed by RP. (author)
