Description

In gadolinium single crystals the magnetic relaxation spectra after hydrogen charging are investigated in the temperature range between 4.2 K and Tsub(c)(293 K). From the diffusion after-effect observed at 185 K the migration energy of hydrogen in gadolinium single crystals is estimated to be (0.38 +- 0.01) eV. An orientation after-effect which is observed at 182.5 K is explained by the formation of hydrogen-impurity complexes in the hexagonal host lattice. The activation energy for reorientations of these complexes is (0.52 +- 0.02) eV. (author)
