Description
An accelerator mass spectrometry program for measuring the long lived environmental radio-isotope 36Cl has been developed jointly over the last three years by Applications of Nuclear Physics, ANSTO and the Department of Nuclear Physics(ANU). The 36Cl/Cl measurements are carried out on the ANU 14UD accelerator. An account is given of the several measurement programs currently in progress in collaboration with other state and federal research bodies. The 36Cl content and 36Cl/Cl ratio has been used as a dating tool or as a natural environment tracer to extend knowledge of the groundwater dynamics. 7 refs
