Description
It is shown that the galaxies of the Local Group may be divided into two groups according to the properties of their dominant red giant populations. In M33, the LMC, NGC 6822, NGC 147, NGC 185, NGC 205 and probably in the SMC and IC 1613 as well, the red giants are bright indicating a relatively low heavy element abundance
