Description

Pressure shocks in pipe systems arise whenever a fluid is accelerated or slowed down for a variety of reasons. Because of the effects associated with them, pressure shocks often cause damage to pipes and pipe supports, thus constituting a problem in many technical process plants. TUeV NORD SysTec GmbH and Co.KG for many years has been involved in computing pressure shocks in power plants, especially nuclear power plants. The company developed and qualified the DYVRO pressure shock code specifically for this purpose. The article describes the DYVRO Mod.3 code version, which was revised in the system of partial differential equations used and in the numerical parts, and its validation on the basis of representative experiments. The results of the validation calculations are compared with internal or external calculations by means of systems codes (ATHLET and RELAP) and with the WAHA pressure shock code. These comparisons, among other things, include the results of the WAHALOADS research project funded under the 5th EU Framework Program. (orig.)
