Problems of the standard Bethe-Bloch stopping power theory applicability to the transmission of 1 GeV/nucleon Au, U nuclei through substances

Description

Consideration is given to the problems of influence of Z3-correction in ionization energy losses on paths of Ar, Fe, Au, U nuclei with initial energies of 504.2, 498.7 and 930.8, 1147.2, 924.3 MeV/nucleon respectively in nuclear emulsion. The conducted investigation of full paths of heavy nuclei in the emulsion showed, that for Au, U type nuclei the calculations, using (dE/dX) ∼Z2 proportion, following from the first Born approximation, gave the noticeable systematic error. The account of higher degrees of 2 ion leads to adequate description. 6 refs., 1 fig
