ESR stochastic precooling

The goal of the stochastic precooling system at the ESR is to provide a fast cooling technique for exotic beams as well as for other beams injected with a large phase space volume. Cooling times of the order of a second are expected. At the end of cooling the phase space density will be sufficiently increased such that fast subsequent electron cooling can be applied. With the combination of stochastic precooling and electron cooling it will be possible to permit experiments with well-cooled-lived exotic nuclei
