Paluel: the production of James Bay on the Cliffs of the Pays de Caux

Description
The main characteristics concerning the confinement enclosure, the reactor vessel, the fuel used, the primary pumps, the steam generator and the first 1300 MW turbogenerator are reviewed; some comparisons with the 900 MW reactors are made. The design of the cooling system constitutes one of the original features of the installations. A glimpse of the work site, the largest in the world at the present time, is given. Concurrently, the EDF is preparing the infrastructures for training the operational personnel of the new 1300 MW unit. The Paluel site is one of the first where the procedure called''large site'' has been applied in order to build in good time the equipment making it possible to provide the site workers and their families with living conditions as close as possible to those of the remainder of the population. To conclude the question of the investment is tackled. By the end of 1985, the 5200 MW of Paluel (4 units of 1300 MW) will be generating from 30 to 35 billion kWh, as much as James bay

On presente les principales caracteristiques concernant l'enceinte de confinement, la cuve du reacteur, le combustible utilise, les pompes primaires, le generateur de vapeur et le premier turbo-alternateur de 1300MW; quelques comparaisons sont faites par rapport aux reacteurs de 900 MW. La conception du circuit de refroidissement constitue l'une des originalites de l'installation. On donne un apercu du chantier qui est a l'heure actuelle le plus grand du monde. Parallelement, EDF prepare les infrastructures destinees a la formation des personnels d'exploitation du nouveau palier 1300MW. Le chantier de Paluel est un des premiers ou la procedure dite de ''grand chantier'' a ete appliquee afin de realiser en temps utile des equipements permettant d'assurer aux travailleurs du chantier et a leurs familles des conditions d'existence aussi proches que possible de celles du reste de la population. Pour finir, on aborde la question des investissements. A la fin de 1985, les 5200 MW de la centrale produiront 30 a 35 milliards de kWh, soit autant que le gigantesque amenagement hydrautique canadiere de le Baie JamesAdditional details
