Reactions induced on 24Mg by medium energy alpha-particle

Description

Measurements, results, and analyses of the (α,α), and (α, 3He) reactions on 24Mg are described. Differential cross sections were measured over an angular range of 60--1030 in 1/20-- 40 steps for elastic and inelastic scattering at 70 and 120 MeV alpha energies and for (α, 3He) reaction at 70 MeV. The measured α-elastic scattering data along with those at 40, 50, 80, 104, and 166 MeV reported in the literature have been analysed in terms of the optical model, the folded nucleon-nucleus model and the folded α-nucleon model. The four-parameter nucleon-nucleus folding model is able to account for the data over a wide range of bombarding energies (20--166 MeV) and target masses (24--90 amu) as well as the six-parameter optical model and significantly better than the other folding model. Also, the energy and target mass dependences of the observed real central strength are consistent with the predictions based upon this folding model. In addition, the 120 MeV data were investigated in detail in terms of the optical model
