Integral and local characteristics of an extended positive corona in the regime of nonlinear oscillations: Experiment

  • 1. Troitsk Institute for Innovation and Fusion Research, Troitsk, Moscow oblast, 142092 (Russian Federation)

Description

Results are presented from systematic investigations of self-oscillations of a positive corona in dry or humid air in the pressure range from 10 to 760 torr. It is established that soft X radiation generated by a positive corona is responsible for air photoionization near the corona electrode. It is found that the corona luminescence, which is uniform in appearance, really consists of a number of small nonsteady current spots, irregularly distributed in space
