Description

The effects of nuclear deformation on the probability for fusion of heavy nuclei are well established. A distribution of fusion barriers results since fusion of a spherical nucleus at an angle of 0 deg to a major axis of a deformed target produces a barrier lower in energy than the spherical projectile/target configuration
