Antibodies to nuclear and smooth muscle antigens in multiple sclerosis and control patients

Serum and CSF specimens of 30 MS patients and 30 age- and sex-matched control patients with other neurological diseases were tested for autoantibodies. Indirect immunofluoresence was used to detect smooth muscle antibodies and antinuclear antibodies in the serum. Antibodies against DNA and RNA in the serum and CSF were tested by solid phase radioimmunoassays. No significant differences in autoantibody levels were found between MS and control patients. (author)
