Stimulated positron emission camera. A new procedure for three-dimensional reconstruction of tissue properties
Description
The paper suggests that the development of a new detector - the superheated superconducting colloid - would permit the construction of a stimulated positron emission camera with the following performance characteristics: (a) three-dimensional reconstruction of brain anatomy with spatial resolution of one millimeter; (b) better contrast than obtained with existing computerized transverse axial tomographic scanners; (c) shorter time and considerably lower radiation dose than required by present nuclear medicine techniques; and (d) the possibility to make dynamic, three-dimensional studies of the lungs with a spatial resolution of two millimeters.
