Description

Full text: One of the philosophies used in uranium exploration is based on the selection of areas for exploration based on the similarity of these with known deposits. The geology of our country can draw analogies with models studied worldwide. The largest reserves of uranium and the main explored deposits are associated with large discordance. In Uruguay regional un conformities are recognized both surface and subsurface deserve to be studied in detail with prospective uses. The sedimentary sequences of the North Basin deposits such as the San Gregorio Formation, Three Islands, Yaguarí; Buena Vista, have some favorable situations uranium accumulation. The mud stones with significant organic content as Fm. Cordovan, Fm. Bare Hill, Fm. Mangrullo of physicochemical conditions that allow precipitation of uranium. The magmatism of Mesozoic basins may be related to uranium deposits related to volcanism and caldera structures. This magmatic activity evidenced through dikes and sills present in our watersheds are an important structural element has to be taken into account and that can act as source rock, seals and roads for uranium deposition. The geology of the crystalline basement Uruguayan possible to consider the concentration of uranium in intrusive type deposits and hydrothermal veins
