Development of a programmable controller system for use in Ontario Hydro nuclear power plants
Description
The programming station, consisting of a mini computer with an intelligent display terminal, was used to generate a test program. (2) Programs are stored in the controller using EPROMS (ultra violet light erasable). (3) The controller was then temporarily installed in an existing 230 kV relay building relay room at one of Ontario Hydro's generating station switchyards. Using spare conductors in existing cables, ground faults were successfully identified 1100 feet away from the controller. Other tests carried out at the same tie indicate that the unit meets its design requirements. (4) The first test prototype units was successfully field tested, and further tests were are planned in the spring of 1981, using several production prototype units to be installed in one of Ontario Hydro's existing Nuclear Generating Stations. The controller development program is continuing with further work being carried out in alternative methods of logic programming and displays, and the development of alternative input/output interfaces devices
