Pair production in alpha decay
Creators
Description
Electron-positron pairs have been observed in the α decay of ²⁴¹Am. A result of (3.1±0.6) × 10⁻⁹ pairs per α decay was obtained. It is believed that the pairs are due to internal pair production occurring in the α-decay process. An approximate calculation, which assumes this production mechanism, is in reasobable agreement with the experimental result.
