The influence of the shape and type of various inclusions on the susceptibility of stainless steels 18-10 to pitting was studied, taking the S content particularly into consideration. Stainless steels with S content from 10 to 200 ppm were tested. The role of the matrix-inclusion interface in the pit initiation was also considered

Envisageant le cas des aciers inoxydables austenitiques du type 18-10, on a etudie l'influence de la forme et de la nature de diverses inclusions sur la sensibilite du metal a la piqure, en accordant une importance particuliere a la teneur en soufre des echantillons. Des examens ont ete effectues sur un acier dont la teneur en soufre evoluait progressivement de 200 ppm a moins de 10 ppm.
