Description

The structure of deuterated acetic acid has been refined at two different temperatures [4.2 (+-1.) and 12.5 (+-1.) K] by the profile-analysis technique of neutron powder diffraction data, with both isotropic and anisotropic temperature factors. The results are compared with existing single-crystal data (neutron and X-ray) for the non-deuterated compound. The geometry of the molecule does not change with temperature, and the lengthening of the O...O distance (2.68 A) may be attributed to the isotope effect. (Auth.)
