Measures of maintaining containment integrity

Description
The gas-tight containment of a nuclear power plant serves a particularly important purpose in protecting the environment. In the chain of safety barriers surrounding the nuclear fuel it constitutes the final, pressure resistant enclosure preventing radioactive substances from spreading. The article contains a description, with explanations of the modes of action, of the measures already introduced to ensure containment integrity, such as venting through filter systems and measures preventing the formation of burnable gas mixtures. Abstract (German)
Nach dem Tschernobyl-Unfall werden im Auftrag des BMU von der GRS verstaerkt Untersuchungen durchgefuehrt, um Moeglichkeiten aufzuzeigen, wie im Falle schwerer Stoerfaelle die Integritaet des Sicherheitsbehaelters gesichert werden kann. Hierauf aufbauend wurden einzelne Massnahmen eines anlageninternen Notfallschutzes in der RSK diskutiert, empfohlen und durch den BMU die Einfuehrung beschlossen. Die bereits beschlossenen Massnahmen zur Erhaltung der Integritaet des Sicherheitsbehaelters wie Druckentlastung ueber Filtereinrichtungen und Massnahmen gegen die Bildung brennbarer Gasgemische werden im Beitrag beschrieben und ihre Wirkungsweise erlaeutert.
