Photogeological inferences of Martian surface composition

Description
Photogeological mapping provides a systematic documentation of geologic observations and included the identification of surface materials and structures, and determination of their sequence of formation. It is concluded that photogeologic mapping shows the presence of a wide range of materials on Mars. Many of which appear to be volcanic. The knowledge of the composition of these materials is poorly constrained. Inferences drawn from the morphology of individual flows would suggest that most of the materials had rheological properties similar to basalt or other mafic magmas
