Description

The development of extended radionuclide sources by sorption on ion-exchange membranes is described. Conditions for the preparation of sources of 60Co, 137Cs, 90Sr-Y, 147Pm and 204Tl have been defined experimentally. β-ray counting efficiencies have been measured as functions of β-ray energy and membrane thickness. For sources 180 x 140 mm, the uniformity of the activity distribution per unit membrane mass was better than 1% for all of the radionuclides studied, with the exception of 147Pm for which it was about 3%.
