Effect of residual stress field on fatigue crack growth in cracked plates

  • 1. Okayama Univ. (Japan). School of Engineering
  • 2. Tsuyama Technical College, Japan

Description

The effect of residual stress fields on fatigue crack growth is investigated quantitatively based on the experimental facts and linear elastic fracture mechanics. The X-ray oscillating stress measurement method is applied to examine the residual stress distribution, both in the pre-cracked specimens having longitudinal residual stress induced by water-cooling and in the propagating fatigue-cracked specimens
