Power line carrier emissions from transmission lines
Description
Since 1983, Power Line Carrier (PLC) systems in Canada have not required licenses and can operate on a non-interference basis in any band. There was concern that PLC systems would move into bands reserved for aeronautical non-directional beacons. Unintentional interference to aeronautical radionavigation systems could prove hazardous to aircraft. Because of this, the Canadian Electrical Association initiated a project to determine PLC emissions. Extensive ground-based and air-based measurements of the 3-dimensional PLC field radiating from various lines and transformer stations have been performed. Results of preliminary tests on the susceptibility of one ADF receiver are also presented. Comparisons of our measurements with measurements by others are made. In this paper an algorithm is presented to assist in converting ground-based measurements into a predicted field at any point around a PLC line
