Density measurements in a heterogeneous soil system

  • 1. Australian Atomic Energy Commission Research Establishment, Lucas Heights

Description

The interpretation of moisture probe measurements is strongly dependent on the dry soil density. This paper discusses the derivation of a gamma density probe calibration curve for use in a heterogeneous material, and whether the constituents of a mine overburden heap be within the limits imposed by the technique. The effects of soil variability on the density precision and on the subsequent moisture measurement are considered
