  • 1. Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai, Songkhla (Thailand)

Description

This work aims to study the contamination of natural radioactive Ra-226 in natural hot spring. Totally 22 hot spring samples were collected from 22 sites in 7 provinces of southern Thailand. Ion exchange resin was used to absorb radium dissolved in water and a low background HPGe gamma-ray spectrometer was used to analyse for Ra-226. The results showed that the specific activities of Ra-226 ranged from 0.00 to 3159 mBq/l. Thirteen out of 22 hot spring samples have the Ra-226 content exceeding 111 mBq/l, which is the US EPA guideline level
