A verification on the fracture criterion of a graphite

  • 1. Ibaraki Univ., Hitachi (Japan). Faculty of Engineering

Description

In this paper a previously proposed fracture criterion based on the fracture mechanics approach of an isotropic graphite IG-11 for core components of the high temperature engineering testing reactor (HTTR) under multiaxial stresses is verified based on data by the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI). From the fracture criterion, allowable design stresses corresponding to the survival probability of 99 % at the 95 % confidence level (99 / 95), so-called the specified minimum ultimate strengths are presented for the safety design under multiaxial stresses of the graphite IG-11.
