Description
Studies of (d,6Li) reactions have been performed to test the sensitivity of the differential cross section and vector analyzing power angular distributions to the L-transfer value and the reaction mechanism. The 50 MeV polarized deuteron beam from the LBL 88 inch cyclotron was used to bombard the 450μg/cm2 thick 40Ca and 48Ti targets. The experiment was performed by use of conventional ΔE-E solid state telescope detector techniques. The typical energy resolution was about 250 keV FWHM. Data were taken in the angular range of 200 to 600, in 50 steps, and were obtained for states in 36Ar and 44Ca up to 10 MeV and 13 MeV, respectively, in excitation energy. The experimental α spectroscopic factors were extracted through DWBA analysis and were compared with the predictions of the SU(3) model, pairing vibrational model and interacting boson model. Because the small analyzing power of the high L-transfers and the large uncertainty in the high excitation energy region, the vector analyzing power does not help too much in determining the L-transfer value. Considering both target configurations and the kinematic transition, one-step and multi-step processes contribute comparably to excite the negative parity states in 36Ar. We observed some 6+ and 8+ states in 44Ca but not in 36Ar indicating that the 2p-2h part of the 40Ca target wave function has isospin T = 1 for the 2p and the 2h
