On a theory of solar spicules and the atmospheric mass balance

  • 1. Cambridge Univ. (UK). Dept. of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics

Description

After reviewing briefly the main observations and existing theories of solar spicules a new theory is presented which explains the main external features. The theory also describes in some detail the physical process whereby the mass balance is established in the solar atmosphere, and expands upon the empirical data available concerning the role, physical conditions and internal properties of spicules.
