Description

Disposal of waste resulting from human activity is a practical problem. Its solution is often found by evacuating the waste into the geological medium. This paper reviews the main mechanisms which might be instrumental in transferring the waste back to the human environment. Examples are given of disposal of domestic, toxic industrial and radioactive waste. The role of grounwater, which is present in virtually all suitable geological formations, is given particular attention
