Mid-infrared solid state laser for medical applications
Description
The last five years have seen the emergence of mid-infrared solid state lasers in medical applications. This paper describes the laser characteristics of fixed-wavelength systems based on holmium-, thulium- and erbium-doped crystals and tunable-wavelength devices based on cobalt-doped magnesium fluoride. In addition, the authors discuss some fundamental studies of mid-infrared laser-tissue interactions and survey the existing and potential clinical uses
