Description
The critical variables affecting the cleavage fracture of steels are rather well known. In this work these variables have been considered in the framework of a statistical model. The model is based on carbide induced cleavage fracture in ferritic and bainitic steels, and it can be used to estimate the expected value and probability limits of fracture toughness. This method has been utilized to evaluate the test result scatter and the effect of specimen size on the measured fracture toughness. (authors)
